The traditional clothing of the Dominican Republic is mainly the result of Spanish and African influences.
They are in the colors of the flag: white for freedom, red for the blood of combatants, and the sky always blue for protection.
Although it has existed for a long time in Dominican culture, the traditional Dominican dress had no official name (or no name at all), it was in 2007 that the National Council of Culture selected, by the intermediary of a commission: "Cultivo de la vida" (Culture of life).
