Caucasus
A vast mountain range forming a natural border between the South Caucasus and Russia, the Greater Caucasus stretches from the Black Sea to the Caspian Sea and offers the most astonishing landscapes of the region, its succession of spectacular peaks bordered by valleys verdant rivers and incredibly picturesque villages. The mountainous regions are dotted with spectacular hiking and horseback riding trails where fortresses, watchtowers and crumbling ancient churches are often perched in picturesque locations. Elsewhere, the Lesser Caucasus in Georgia and Armenia and the Talysh Mountains in Azerbaijan have their own glory. At lower elevations you will find idyllic farms, vineyards and forests as well as arid semi-deserts, rocky gorges and even alluring beaches.
